A Study on Opticians¡¯ Image

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to grasp opticians¡¯ image and use the data to establish a better image of the opticians in the future.

Methods: Using a structured online questionnaire, 195 subjects were questioned on opticians¡¯ image (traditional, social, professional, social participation, and interpersonal relationship). The data collected were analyzed at a significance level of 0.05 using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 18.0.

Results: The overall average of opticians¡¯ image was 3.67, with 3.90 for traditional, 3.45 for social, 3.93 for professional, 3.38 for social participation, and 3.67 for interpersonal relationship. As the subjects¡¯ age increased (t = 3.923; p = 0.010), the opticians¡¯ image moderately deteriorated, except for those over 60 years. As the educational level of the subjects increased, the opticians¡¯ image moderately deteriorated (t = 7.015; p = 0.001).

Conclusions: Opticians are aware of the changes in their image and have to be more firm with their professional consciousness. If opticians decide to do their job with the beliefs and attitudes of a professional, it is expected that their image will improve and the profession will become more robust.
